SITUBONDO – The spirit of protecting the environment and strengthening the resilience of coastal areas was reflected in a simultaneous mangrove planting activity led by Commander of Korem 083/Baladhika Jaya (Danrem 083/Bdj), , at Sedulur Beach, Peleyan Village, Panarukan District, Situbondo Regency.

The activity, which was part of the 2026 Territorial Development Strengthening Program, involved elements of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), students, Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis), and local residents as a form of mutual cooperation in preserving the coastal environment.

In his remarks, Danrem 083/Bdj emphasized that coastal areas hold highly strategic value, not only in terms of territorial defense, but also as a source of livelihood and economic support for coastal communities.

“This mangrove planting is not merely a ceremonial activity, but a collective expression of concern to protect nature, safeguard the coastline from abrasion, and leave a healthy environment for future generations,” said Colonel Inf. Wahyu Ramadhanus.

A total of 1,600 mangrove seedlings were planted in the Sedulur Beach area as an effort to build a natural coastal barrier while preserving the marine ecosystem amid the challenges of environmental change and tidal fluctuations.

Danrem also encouraged the public to continue fostering environmental awareness through concrete actions and a culture of mutual cooperation, stressing that environmental preservation cannot be achieved by one party alone.

“The unity between the TNI and the people must be realized through environmental awareness. If nature is well preserved, the lives of coastal communities will become stronger and more prosperous,” he added.

Through this activity, Korem 083/Bdj hopes the mangrove planting initiative will provide long-term benefits, including maintaining ecosystem balance, reducing the impact of coastal abrasion, and supporting the welfare of coastal communities in Situbondo Regency. (*)
